Young members of the emerging wealthy bourgeois class of the post-revolutionary 1790s who affected a look of carelessness in combination with exaggerated styles. Features are mussed hair, huge hats, huge bustles, showing more leg and pushed-up breast than commonly considered decent... Generally speaking, the incroyables (male variety) and merveilleuses (female) were through stylish and out the other side.
