A hand-coloured fashion plate from "Le Moniteur de la mode".
Without the year in one corner, I would probably have dated it a bit later,
maybe 1890-92.
Judging from fashion plates of the year before, bustles were still as common as muck in 1888, complete with tablier draperies. These ladies here wear no bustles - the impression of a large backside is due to their posture - and there are no draperies. The belts are new as well.
It is of course possible that the plate was published in time
for the ball season at the end of the year, almost 1890...
