Paris says that checks will be just as important
for  fall as  they  have  been  for  summer.  The
loose  weave  and  rough  texture of  the  fabric
above is  excellent  for women's dresses and for
pleated skirts and dresses for girls.

Selected to show how the new nubbed effect, so
prominent  in winter  forecasts,  can be  achieved
in  washable  cottons.  Here it is printed  and has
a  solid  border,  broken  by  a  faint  herringbone
stripe. This border offers an ideal trimming.

String-colored  gabardine is  being shown  exten-
sively in new  aviation  costumes.   Both in this
color and  darker shades,   it plays an important
role in camp wear . . especially in pleated shorts
or long gob-like trousers with matching jackets.

Green is a coming color  for street  and sports
wear. Often it is worn with soft yellow acces-
sories . . . such as vests or gloves.   The above
pattern is  wearable both by  girls and women.
All colors are excellent for autumn.

Velveteen piqué  subscribes to  all the  loveliest
plain shades and prints for autumn. Especially
notable  are the  small  block prints  that give a
tweed-like  effect.   The  color  range  has been
adopted with an excellent eye to making smart
and interesting combinations for sports wear.

No autumn cotton forecast would  be complete
without lisle jerseys.   They are very  smart for
little boys' and girls' pull-overs and for all man-
ner of  blouses  to wear  with  the new  tailored
suits. Excellent patterns; several colors.
